Bike Route
This past weekend I finalized the route for my big bike adventure this spring. About April 20th I'll be flying down to Marco Island (bringing my bike along) and cycling back to Gaylord . Andrea's graduation is May 25th, so that is the deadline for my return.
The route is about 2,200 miles, most of it following established cycling routes. One really cool section, called the "Underground Railroad Trail," follows many historic sites from Memphis, AL to Cincinnati, OH.
I am posting a map with my route in yellow and orange. The yellow lines are established cycling routes. (There are a couple of extra yellow lines left over from my planning process; cycling routes that I was considering.) The orange lines are how I'm filling in the gaps. Click on the map to see it in detail.
I have been training on "rollers" for about two hours, 4 to 5 days a week. It's been kind of fun - I've been watching movies while I ride. This past weekend I watched Cool Hand Luke, The Bridge Over the River Kwai, and Taxi Driver. I figure I am riding the equivalent of 15 miles per hour, and I feel prepared for the trip.
I will keep you "tuned in" via this blog during my trip and look forward to your postings.
